PV GAS proactively implements green development orientation – Co-chairing the Workshop “Vietnam Australia Hydrogen Workshop – H2 Mobility & Decentralized System ”

On December 9, 2024, at the headquarters of the Petro Vietnam Gas Corporation (PV GAS) in Ho Chi Minh City, PV GAS coordinated with the Vietnam ASEAN Hydrogen Club (VAHC) and Pure Hydrogen Company to organize a workshop with the theme " Vietnam Australia Hydrogen Workshop - H2 Mobility & Decentralised System". The content of the workshop focused on the development of hydrogen for mobility and decentralized hydrogen production and supply systems. The workshop also opened up cooperation opportunities between Vietnamese and Australian enterprises, including PV GAS and other subsidiaries of the Petro Vietnam Oil and Gas Group (Petrovietnam).

Attendee of the workshop were representatives of the Australian Consulate in Ho Chi Minh City and the Australian Trade and Investment Commission in Vietnam (Austrade Vietnam); delegates from the Australian Hydrogen Council (AHC) and the Smart Energy Council (SEC); members of the Vietnam ASEAN Hydrogen Club (VAHC), including organizations and enterprises operating in the energy sector (including subsidiaries of Petrovietnam); companies in the transportation, tourism, construction, and manufacturing sectors; green financial institutions and climate funds; interested domestic and international parties, and leading experts from Vietnam and Australia.

The Presidium chaired the Vietnam-Australia Hydrogen Workshop

The Workshop was chaired by: Mr. Pham Van Phong – President and CEO of PV GAS, Mr. Le Ngoc Anh Minh - Chairman of VAHC, Ms. Rebecca Ball - Senior Trade & Investment Commissioner of Austrade Vietnam, Mr. Clint Butler - International Business Director of Pure Hydrogen Company.

Low-emission hydrogen in general, and green hydrogen in particular play a key role in the energy transition toward achieving carbon neutrality by 2050, helping the world overcome the climate crisis. Emission reductions from current industrial production and transportation activities can be achieved by switching to renewable energy. However, the production and supply of electricity from renewable energy sources such as wind and solar energy are unstable, so there is a need for reliable, low-emission, and large-scale storage and transportation solutions. Green hydrogen provides these capabilities in a near-ideal way because of no additional CO2 emission during use. In addition, hydrogen is also used as a feedstock for many different industries. Vietnam, with its vast potential for renewable energy (solar power, wind power, especially offshore wind power), holds a significant advantage in implementing green hydrogen production and supply projects, not only for the domestic market but also with export potential.

The workshop attracted significant interest and participation from numerous organizations and businesses from both countries.

In the welcoming speech at the workshop, PV GAS President & CEO Pham Van Phong affirmed: As a leading gas enterprise in Vietnam, PV GAS is proud to play an important role in providing clean energy from natural gas sources, ensuring national energy security for more than three decades, contributing significantly to the socio-economic development of Vietnam. Facing the trend of energy transition, PV GAS also builds a vision and strives to become a leading enterprise in the production and supply of green energy, in order to contribute the implementation of the national goal of carbon neutrality, in which low-emission hydrogen is a core sector in PV GAS's development strategy.

The workshop discussed promoting cooperation between Vietnam and Australia in technology transfer, education, and training; developing safety standards in the hydrogen industry; and financial support for green transition projects. The workshop also discussed the possibility of establishing a hydrogen supply chain between Vietnam and Australia by exploiting the strengths of Australian technology, green finance, and Vietnam's resources. During the workshop, delegates deliberated on low-emission hydrogen applications for mobility and decentralized green hydrogen production and supply systems. The target is to establish a series of demonstration projects on low-emission hydrogen-fueled transport and decentralized green hydrogen production and supply systems in Vietnam, as a step toward developing the low-emission hydrogen market in both Vietnam and Australia.

Topic discussion in Workshop about co-operation and development green projects

At the workshop, the leader of PV GAS's Technical Division delivered a presentation on PV GAS’s green development strategy, emphasizing that utilizing gas pipeline infrastructure to transport and supply low-emission hydrogen is an important issue in the early stages of developing the hydrogen market in Vietnam, in order to implement the "Vietnam's Hydrogen Energy Development Strategy to 2030, with a vision to 2050", issued under Decision 165/QD-TTg dated February 7, 2024 of the Prime Minister. The presentation also introduced PV GAS's pilot project for the production and supply of small-scale green hydrogen for industrial customers, which is currently under implementation.

As the co-host of the workshop, PV GAS is proud to have provided an engaging forum that brought together experts, policymakers, and business leaders united by the shared goal of advancing the green transition. The workshop is an opportunity for businesses and organizations in Vietnam and Australia to share knowledge, and experience and build effective cooperative relationships to deploy new and challenging fields while exploring the great potential of low-emission hydrogen in the field of transportation and distributed energy systems.

The workshop is an important event to promote the spirit of innovation, creativity, and hydrogen startups of Vietnamese and Australian businesses.

PV GAS is proud to co-chair the forum for the target of promoting green transition.
