Inauguration of the Community Educational and Cultural Center in Du Hang Kenh Ward, Le Chan District, Hai Phong City
In the morning of July 21st, 2015, a ceremony to receive the noble title of “Hero of the People’s Army Forces in the country's resistance against the French invasion” and to cut the ribbon on the occasion of the inauguration of the community educational and cultural center was formally organized at Du Hang Kenh Ward, Le Chan District, Hai Phong City,
Representing the city were the Secretary of the Municipal Party Committee Mr. Duong Anh Dien, the Chairman of the Municipal People’s Council and other authorities of Le Chan District and Du Hang Kenh Ward. Vice President of PetroVietnam Oil and Gas Group (PetroVietnam or PVN) - Mr. Do Chi Thanh, Deputy General Manager of Personnel Division of PVN - Mr. Trinh Dung, and General Manager of Human Resources Division of PetroVietnam Gas Joint Stock Corporation (PV Gas) - Mr. Tran Duc Son, were present at the ceremony.
The project is a two-storey complex structure, including one meeting hall, two classrooms and auxiliary works. The budget of VND 4.9 billion for the construction was funded by PV Gas from the social security resources allocated by PVN. The center is a gathering and meeting place for war veterans and senior revolutionary comrades, and also a place for organizing educational and cultural activities for young people in the area.
From 1930, Du Hang Kenh Ward was always a base of the revolutionary movements of the city. This was also where Mr. Nguyen Duc Cuc (namely Mr. Nguyen Van Linh) who later became the General Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam stayed and worked, and a place for Mr. Nguyen Cong Hoa, the former Secretary of Hai Phong Municipal Party Committee, to give directions for the revolutionary movements of the city. During the nine-year resistance war against France, many residents in Du Hang Kenh Ward sacrificed themselves to protect Hang Kenh, Quan Soi, Cau Niem etc. Local people of Du Hang Kenh Ward also made a number of remarkable contributions to the resistance war against America.
At the ceremony, the Secretary of the Municipal Party Committee cum the Chairman of the Municipal People’s Council Mr. Duong Anh Dien expressed his gratitude to PetroVietnam and PV Gas for financing the construction, improving the facilities available to educational and cultural activities of Du Hang Kenh Ward, which has just been awarded the title of “Hero of the People’s Army Forces in the resistance war against France”.
On behalf of the leaders of PetroVietnam, Vice President of PetroVietnam - Mr. Do Chi Thanh affirmed that social security affairs and repayment for favour of revolutionists in many provinces of the entire country have always been receiving great attention from generations of employees of the oil and gas industry. The handing-over of the building has shown the responsibilities and the appreciation of the oil and gas people to those areas where honorable traditions in the resistance wars against the French and American invaders for the independence and freedom of the country was established
