Dry gas
Dry gas is a natural gas or associated gas which has been treated to remove mechanical impurities, water, bupro and condensate in the gas processing plant. Its main composition is methane (CH4).
Application: Dry gas is widely used all over the world as a fuel for power plants and a feedstock for petrochemical plants to produce fertilizer, methanol, DME, etc. In Vietnam, dry gas is currently used to produce approximately 36% of electricity (in 2011) and 85% to 90% of nitrogen fertilizer output. In the future, it will be used as feedstocks for petrochemical complexes.
Dry gas is a clean fuel. Its use can emit less CO2 and NOx than coal and oil when combusted, which are one of the major causes of global warming and acid rain. In addition, dry gas emits very little SOx when burnt.
Vietnamese Gas Market
The Vietnamese gas market is mainly concentrated in the Southern area where the infrastructure of the gas industry has been relatively fully developed. The gas market in Northern and Central areas are considered to be a potential market. However, until now the volume of gas exploited from Tien Hai gas field is limited ,about only 7.74 million m3 (2010) and has a rapid decline.
Currently, main customers using natural gas are power plants in the South-Eastern and South-Western areas, accounting for 87% of the total gas output. Ca Mau Fertilizer Plant was completed and put into operation in early 2012. It is expected to consume a volume equivalent to that of the Phu My Fertilizer Plant. The estimated volume to supply to Fertilizer plants is 7% of the total gas output. The remaining fraction is for construction material production industry, food-processing companies e.t.c.
