PV GAS receives 2nd LNG shipment for power generation
At 8:00 on April 11, 2024, the Al Jassasiya vessel carrying nearly 70,000 tons of LNG from Ras Laffan port (Qatar) docked at PV GAS Vung Tau Terminal. This was the 2nd LNG shipment of PV GAS and the first time LNG was used to serve electricity generation in Vietnam.
Nearly 70,000 tons of LNG will be supplied by PV GAS to Phu My 3 Thermal Power Plant under Vietnam Electricity Group (EVN) in April and May. PV GAS, with nearly 95.76% of shares owned by Vietnam Oil and Gas Group (Petrovietnam), is the leading unit entrusted by the Party and the State to lead Vietnam's gas industry in the framework of implementing the competitive energy market according to Decision No. 2233/QD-TTg of the Prime Minister issued on December 28, 2020. Up to the present time, PV GAS is the first and only enterprise qualified to import and export LNG and owns complete LNG infrastructure in Vietnam that has been operational since July 2023.
Like the first LNG shipment in July 2023, the reception of the 2nd one was particularly emphasized with the seamless coordination among many functional units and agencies. The entire process of handling the vessel from buoy ‘0’ to the terminal’s dock was carried out with absolute safety, according to regulations, and on time. This smooth and standardized coordination once again demonstrated the management and operational capacity of PV GAS. It was expected that the Al Jassasiya vessel would berth and unload for about 36 hours before leaving the Terminal

With the support of the Ministries and State as well as Petrovietnam, in the coming time, PV GAS will actively of great assistance for the Authorities with the review and resolution on policy constraints related to mechanisms and infrastructure in the implementation of LNG products in Vietnam. Specifically, focusing on building centralized LNG hub infrastructure to optimize the country's resources, establishing mechanisms to encourage infrastructure investment, along with specific provisions on pricing transfer mechanisms, volume guarantees, fee principles will contribute to building a transparent and sustainable LNG business market.
On March 29, 2024, PV GAS concluded an LNG contract with EVN to supplement input for power generation in 2024. LNG will be distributed to the Phu My 3 Thermal Power Plant in the period of April-May 2024 as an addition of about 500 million kWh to the power system. Previously, on March 15, 2024, PV GAS officially supplied LNG for industrial production with the first LNG tanker trucks in Vietnam, serving customers in Thuan Dao Industrial Zone, Long An.
As the first and only LNG importer/exporter up to date in Vietnam, PV GAS continues to affirm its pioneering position in the country’s gas industry, committing to ensuring supply to meet the needs of electricity and industrial production, contributing to the strong and prosperous development of Vietnam’s economy.
