EVN and PV GAS work on stable gas and LNG supply for power generation (2025-2030)

In early March 2025, at the headquarter of EVN in Hanoi, Petrovietnam Gas Corporation (PV GAS) and EVN had a meeting to discuss solutions to ensure stable gas and LNG supply for power generation.

As domestic sources have declined rapidly, PV GAS has committed to increasing the regasification capacity of its Thi Vai LNG Terminal from 5.7 million Sm³/day to 7 million Sm³/day starting March 2025. This is projected to help ensure reserved capacity during upcoming dry seasons, in face of rising electricity demand.

From 2026 to 2029, PV GAS will additionally operate a Floating Storage and Regasification Unit (FSRU) at PV GAS Vung Tau Terminal. With a storage capacity of 135,000–174,000 Sm³ LNG and regasification capacity of up to 14 million Sm³/day, the FSRU will raise the total system regasification capacity to 22 million Sm³/day.

The Corporation is also accelerating the second-phase expansion of Thi Vai LNG Terminal, to increase its capacity from 1 MTPA to 3 MTPA by 2029.

EVN leaders expressed confidence in and appreciation for PV GAS' solutions. After discussions, both parties agreed to implement gas and LNG supply solutions for each phase through 2030, ensuring the safe, stable, and efficient operation of the power system.

Beyond Vietnam’s Southeast region, the two will also strengthen cooperation in developing the LNG-to-power value chain in Central Vietnam. PV GAS will play a leading role in supplying regasified LNG to Quang Trach 2 Power Plant—a strategic EVN-led project to supplement power supply for the Central region and all over the country.

PV GAS' strategic solutions—from optimizing existing infrastructure and fast-track regasification expansion to national LNG supply development—will lay a solid foundation for the power sector's growth and contribute to national energy security in the coming decades.

With its strategic vision and industry-leading capabilities, PV GAS reaffirms its irreplaceable role in Vietnam's gas and power value chain. The close collaboration between PV GAS and EVN promises breakthroughs in power stability and sustainable socio-economic development.
