PV GAS and Vietinbank listed in the top largest enterprises in the world
Forbes Magazine has released its list of Forbes Global 2000, consisting of largest and most powerful public companies in the world. The ranking is based on a mix of four metrics: sales, profit, assets and market value.
Accordingly, Vietnam has two representatives - PetroVietnam Gas Joint Stock Corporation (PetroVietnam Gas) and Vietnam Joint Stock Commercial Bank for Industry and Trade (VietinBank) in the list. PetroVietnam Gas is ranked at 1,651st position with US$3.1 billion in sales and $7.5 billion in market value. Meanwhile, Vietinbank stands at 1,854th position with $2.3 billion in sales and $2.9 million in market value. Vietinbank as Vietnam’s sole representative appeared in the list in the last two years, at 1,989th and 1,764th positions.
This year, the Global 2000 companies hail from 62 countries, increased by a half as compared to the first year of listing in 2003. In total, they raked in sales of $38 trillion and profits of $3 trillion, with assets worth $161 trillion and a market value of $44 trillion. They employ 90 million people worldwide. All these figures are up from last year.
The highest ranks are occupied by American firms, including J.P. Morgan and Berkshire Hathaway. The two European firms in Top 10 last year - Royal Dutch Shell and HSBC, could not hold on to their positions this year.
According to Forbes, there’s no doubt that the financial and banking sector still dominates the list with 467 representatives due to outstanding sales and assets, followed by the oil and gas sector (125), insurance and electricity-water.
