Project groundbreaking ceremony: Gas gathering and distribution system of Ham Rong and Thai Binh Fields, blocks 102 & 106, phase 1
In a joyful and exciting atmosphere of celebrating the excellent performance of production and business plan in 2012, welcoming New Year 2013, PetroVietnam Gas Joint Stock Corporation along with its partners organized the project groundbreaking ceremony “Gas gathering & distribution system of Ham Rong and Thai Binh fields, blocks 102 & 106, phase 1”
PetroVietnam Gas Joint Stock Corporation was officially appointed as the investor of this project by Vietnam Oil and Gas Group with total investment capital of US$64.12m, in which PetroVietnam Technical Services Corporation (PTSC) is the main contractor of EPC. The construction work is expected to bring into operation by the end of 2013.
Tien Hai Industrial Zone (IZ) (Thai Binh province), with its history of development over 30 years, is the first one that has used the natural gas (NG) in Vietnam in general and in Thai Binh – the cradle of oil and gas industry in Vietnam in particular. The NG is produced from Tien Hai, D14 and Dong Quan D fields which are in land. Those are the places where the very first gas flow of Vietnam was produced by Vietnam National Oil and Gas Group 30 years ago. The supply sources of NG for Tien Hai IZ have significantly decreased so far, whereas the demand for the use of NG has increased noticeably. As a result, some NG end-users are looking for the alternative fuels for production such as CBM, LPG, DO, FO, etc. The industrial end-users of NG can hardly expand production and there is no new enterprise growth due to lack of fuel and feedstock which is gas.
“Gas gathering & distribution system of Ham Rong and Thai Binh fields, blocks 102 & 106, phase 1” project is a core and major gas system which transports gas from Hong River basin onshore, supplying gas to industrial customers in Tien Hai IZ through the natural gas pipeline system as well as the industrial ones in far distance by specialized means of transport with compressed natural gas (CNG). The basic configuration of the system (Phase 1) is the 16’’ gas pipeline from Thai Binh field to Gas Distribution Center (GDC) in Tien Hai IZ – Thai Binh province, including the main categories as follows:
- The 16’’ gas pipeline with 24.68km in length, starts from Thai Binh field (block 102) to Landfall Point (LFP) in Con Vanh, to Landfall Station (LFS) in Dong Minh commune, Tien Hai district, Thai Binh province and ends at GDC in Tien Hai IZ.
- The pipeline is designed with tie-ins to connect the fields (blocks 103 & 107) together in the future and provisions for importing plan of LNG through the floating storage system. Thai Binh Gas Platform: according to the field development plan of the field owner (Petronas), it’ll be the unman platform. The main equipment of the platform consists of: Pig launcher, injection inhibitor, riser and accessories.
- The main equipment of the LFS consists of: shutdown valve (SDV), cold vent, fibre optics system connecting the control system with GDC, office, uninterruptible power supply (UPS) and supporting system.
- GDC with the area of 5ha, includes the main technology and equipment systems: pig receiver, separator, filter – separator, condensate tank, gas pumping system onto tank truck, metering system, condensate/water separator, central control system, workshop, office and supporting systems such as 35/0.4 KV transformer station, stand-by generator, oil-contaminated water treatment system, fire fighting system, etc.
Upon completion, the system will receive gas from Thai Binh field and distribute to the gas consumers through a low pressurized natural gas distribution channel/CNG (built simultaneously with the project) with the expected gas output of about 566,400 m3/day.
PetroVietnam Gas Joint Stock Corporation - an organization under Vietnam National Oil and Gas Group, is assigned to become the motive force in gas industry in Vietnam. With 22 years of establishment and development history, PV Gas has been challenged from time to time, and has proved its management capability in most gas projects in Vietnam, ranging from Bach Ho, Nam Con Son and PM3 – Ca Mau pipelines to Dinh Co gas processing plants (GPP), gas storage system in large scale like Thi Vai LPG Storage, natural gas supply system, other storage systems, especially the first LPG refrigerated storage with highest capacity in Vietnam which is ready to be brought into use shortly. All these systems nationwide apply the state-of-the-art technologies. Throughout 17 years of operation, all gas works of PV Gas prove their stability, conformity with standards, safety assurance, uninterrupted operation and environment protection.
PV Gas has also operated successfully and is highly appreciated in gas gathering and transport projects which mainly focus in the South. The “Gas gathering & distribution system of Ham Rong and Thai Binh fields, blocks 102 & 106, phase 1” project is the first gas gathering project of PetroVietnam Gas Joint Stock Corporation in the North and is the basis for the development of gas market in the Northern region, meeting the requirements of gas industry development target nationwide. With the fruitful results, as well as the experiences in investment, construction, management and operation of gas system, PV Gas confidentially undertakes its leading role, deploys and expands important gas works to the North.
By deploying Gas gathering & distribution system of Ham Rong and Thai Binh fields, Vietnam Oil and Gas Group and its unit members have achieved new progress in carrying out the Vietnam’s National Energy Development Strategy up to 2020 approved by the Prime Minister. In the context of the development speed of gas industry in the North increases from time to time while the gas supply sources in local areas are gradually decreasing, the Project is expected to take effect in meeting the demand of the market in the period, contributing to the economic development of the Northern delta in general and Thai Binh province in particular.
The “Gas gathering & distribution system of Ham Rong and Thai Binh fields, blocks 102 & 106, phase 1” project also marks the good cooperation between Thai Binh province and Vietnam National Oil and Gas Group.
