PV GAS and Vietnam Coast Guard continue coordination
Recently, Petrovietnam Gas Corporation (PV GAS) and the Vietnam Coast Guard organized a conference to conclude a coordination agreement regarding the security and safety for offshore gas pipeline systems in the upcoming period.
Signing the Coordination Agreement
PV GAS currently manages and operates five gas transportation and distribution systems, namely Cuu Long, Nam Con Son, PM3 – Ca Mau, Ham Rong – Thai Binh, and Nam Con Son 2, spanning over 1,400 kilometers, with nearly 1,200 kilometers of pipelines lying on the seabed. The underwater pipelines traverse areas concentrated with offshore oil and gas infrastructure, international trading routes, and fishing zones. This poses risks from maritime services, fishing activities, and exploration or exploitation operations, including collisions, anchoring, trawling, and the use of explosives to pipeline integrity, potentially causing gas leaks or explosions underwater.
Reports from the two parties
For over 34 years, PV GAS has prioritized ensuring the security and safety of its pipeline systems, synonymous with striving to prevent incidents that could endanger lives, the environment, or assets. Since 2014, PV GAS has partnered with the Vietnam Coast Guard through a coordination agreement to patrol and safeguard offshore pipelines. This agreement has formed the foundation for both to collaborate in protecting Bach Ho and PM3 – Ca Mau pipelines.
In recent years, over 200 joint patrols have been conducted along these pipelines, with a focus on two key objectives: maintaining maritime territorial security and ensuring the safety of pipelines. Additionally, patrol officers engage with passing vessels, disseminating information and encouraging fishermen and locals to actively contribute to protecting the nation's maritime and aerial territories.
Celebrating achievements in collaboration
Through these patrols, nearly 700 vessels operating within pipeline safety corridors have been identified and informed, while over 200 violations have been documented. This collaboration has significantly enhanced the safety of PV GAS' offshore pipeline systems. This achievement is backed up by positive results, with fewer violations and greater public awareness of the importance of pipeline safety.
At the conference, PV GAS and the Vietnam Coast Guard signed a new coordination agreement for the next phase. This critical event lays the groundwork for continued patrols to protect Bach Ho and PM3 – Ca Mau offshore pipelines and the ongoing safety and reliability of PV GAS' systems, thereby supporting national energy and food security.
