PV GAS SE successfully organises a response drill for fire fighting at the Bach Ho oilfield’s corridor of gas pipeline

PetroVietnam Gas South East Transmission Company (PV GAS SE) on June 3 co-operated with polices in the southern province of Ba Ria-Vung Tau to organise a response drill for fire fighting and rescue, and oil and chemical spills at the Bach Ho oilfield’s corridor of gas pipeline.

The drill’s assumed scenario said that a fire at the Bac Ho oilfield’s corridor of gas pipeline was caused by a mean which was executing Nam Con Son 2 project’s the second phase. The mean encroached on Bach Ho’s gas pipeline which has been buried underground, leading to leaking hydrocarbon and condensate out from the pipeline. The gases getting in touch with the electric spark caused a fire. If the fire was not prevented in time, it would spread too rapidly and exploded other gas pipelines nearby and houses of people who live in the neighbouring areas.

After the fire occurred, operation and fire fighting forces on the spot had the timely activities to prevent the spread of fire immediately. They co-operated with each other to address technologies rapidly and to isolate to reduce pressures in the pipeline to minimize the leakage of gas and condensate into the environment. All fire fighting nozzles were placed in the leakage area until the fire was stamped out. 

The assumed scenario for rescue was that one staff of fire fighting forces stood near the leakage area and fell in a faint due to shortage of oxygen. The leader of the company’s rescue force directed its teams to use masks to access the victim, provide first aid and bring him to the nearest health facility to treat.

The drill ended successfully as planned, ensuring safety for people and means. It helped improve awareness on fire fighting and prevention and the capacity of response on the spot for the forces and was a chance to review means and devices for fire fighting of the company.
