An awarding ceremony of the Investment and Business Registration Certificates for PV GAS and AES Corporation’s Son My LNG Terminal Project

On the occasion of Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh's business trip and his entourage to attend the ASEAN-US Special Summit on May 11 in Washington D.C., in the presence of Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh and US Secretary of Commerce Gina Raimondo, Vietnam's Minister of Investment and Planning Nguyen Chi Dung granted the Investment and Business Registration Certificates to the Son My LNG Terminal Project of Petrovietnam Gas Joint Stock Corporation (PV GAS) and AES Corporation (in the U.S.). Mr. Hoang Van Quang – CEO of Petrovietnam Gas Joint Stock Corporation (PV GAS) and Mr. Berned Da Santos - AES Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer of AES Corporation were representatives to receive the Certificates. Mr. Le Manh Hung – CEO of Vietnam Oil and Gas Group and some other representatives of the Group's leaders witnessed the awarding ceremony.

Granting the Investment Certificate for the Son My LNG Terminal Project and the Business Registration Certificate for the establishment of Son My LNG Terminal Co., Ltd (SM LNG Company) is a great step as the part of the investment in Son My LNG Terminal Project with the first phase’s capacity of 3.6 million tons/year to supply LNG to Son My Power Plants No.1 and 2, and then the increase of 6 million tons/year (in the next phase).

Right after the awarding ceremony, Vietnam Oil and Gas Group (Petrovietnam), PV GAS and AES had a working session on the implementation of the Son My LNG Terminal Project. Mr. Le Manh Hung - CEO of Petrovietnam continued to affirm and pledge his supports in all aspects for the project to get investment and be put into operation soon. Besides, Petrovietnam was willing to share and cooperate with AES in investing in wind power plants in Vietnam.

More over during the meeting, PV GAS CEO Hoang Van Quang announced the project’s next implementation plan and committed that PV GAS will support maximum human resource as well as facilities for Son My LNG Joint Venture Company.

Mr. Berned Da Santos, the AES representative, expressed his respect for the support of Petrovietnam and PV GAS in the implementation of the Project and the time arrangement for the parties to have a meeting as soon as possible in order to speed up the project progress as well as the cooperation with them in the upcoming projects of AES Group in Vietnam.
